According to a new study published by the European Patent Office (EPO) on October 19, from a global perspective, Europe and the United States are leading the way in plastic recycling and plastic replacement technologies. Between 2010 and 2019, Europe and the United States each accounted for 30% of global patent activity in these fields, or 60% in total. In Europe, Germany has the highest proportion of patent activities in plastic recycling and bioplastic technology (8% of the global total). France, the United Kingdom, Italy, the Netherlands and Belgium also stand out for their specialized activities in these fields.

      For our country, there is still a long way to go. Fortunately, with the full implementation of the ban on plastics in 2020 and the dual-carbon goal, my country’s environmental protection new material companies have accelerated their development, including bio-based biodegradable materials such as PLA and PHA, and non-degradable bio-based nylon materials.
